If you got here looking for the extension, good news: Cuba eliminated it in July 2023 — for all passports, including the old six-year ones. What matters today is something else: your expiration date. We'll explain what you need now, clearly and in your language.
What changed
Since July 1, 2023 (Decree 91), no Cuban passport requires an extension: neither the new 10-year ones nor the old six-year ones. Six-year passports are valid until the date printed in the document, and once expired, you apply for a new passport.
Word of caution: pages and "gestores" still circulate charging for extensions that no longer exist. If anyone offers you one today, be wary — and if you're unsure about your dates, write us: checking them costs you nothing.
What to do now
Open your passport and look at the expiration. Six-year passports (issued before July 2023) all expire before 2029.

Minors' passports last only 5 years. Check those dates first: it's the expiration that ruins the most trips.
